OACA News

OACA is a Not for Profit Volunteer Association

OACA is a not-for-profit volunteer association managed by an elected nine-member Board of Directors. Our membership includes Secretary-Treasurers of Committees of Adjustment and Land Division Committees, appointed members who serve on these committees, and associate members involved in consents and minor variance applications.

A Committee of Adjustment is a quasi-judicial body that makes decisions on applications related to minor variances, consents, and permissions to extend or enlarge legal non-conforming uses under the authority of the Planning Act of Ontario. Committee of Adjustment members can be locally appointed residents, members of council, or a combination of both, tasked with providing fair and sensitive adjudication on applications for relief from municipal zoning by-laws or various types of consents. Secretary-Treasurers are typically municipal staff. The unique blend of staff and committee members makes OACA a dynamic organization that caters to diverse interests and needs. Our mandate is to educate our members and advocate for legislative and regulatory changes to streamline the minor variance and consent processes. As a province-wide association, we offer numerous opportunities for our members to learn about and discuss the application and implementation of existing and proposed legislation.
